Air Partner - 25 Jan 2017
Aircraft on Ground (AOG) situations are a huge (and potentially very costly) inconvenience for airlines at any time of year, but particularly so during the hectic Christmas season.
Air Partner’s Freight team were faced with a holiday challenge on the afternoon of Christmas Eve, when they received an urgent enquiry from a French freight forwarder, requesting the delivery of a CF6 aircraft engine from Paris to Algiers.
Despite the time of the year, Air Partner was able to quickly identify the most time and cost efficient solution, as well as organise flying rights and specialised insurance, which was required since the cargo value was over £10 million.
The team arranged for the 5-tonne engine to be trucked the 200km from Paris to Vatry, where they had managed to position a suitable Antonov 12 aircraft. On arrival, the engine was directly loaded onto the aircraft at Châlons Vatry Airport for its onward journey to Houari Boumediene Airport in Algiers.
The precious cargo arrived at its destination on Christmas Day - less than 24 hours after the request from the client – which was the best Christmas present the airline could have had.
Mike Hill, Air Partner's Director of Freight, commented: “This is one of many fine examples from 2016 of how Air Partner has assisted airlines around the world in resolving AOG issues so that they can get their aircraft back in the air as soon as possible. The most important factor is speed of response, coupled with the sourcing of the most economical solution to any particular problem. The team’s attention to detail is also key, enabling the AOG recovery to run as efficiently as possible. This ranges from organising online contracting and credit terms, to arranging the charter aircraft to be parked directly next to the grounded aircraft.
In addition to moving engines, we also support the airline industry with On Board Courier (OBC) of small aerospace parts, flight crews and engineer transport, as well as short and long term ACMI leases to airlines who require extra capacity.”
At Air Partner, no two AOG scenarios are treated the same. The Freight team offers bespoke solutions for every request it receives to ensure that its clients’ AOG issues are resolved as quickly as possible, with minimal disruption and no unnecessary expense. What’s more, with Air Partner’s dedicated 24/7 operations centre, clients can rest assured that the team will find an appropriate tailored solution - even at the busiest times of the year.
