America's Cup, Bermuda & Beyond

For the first time in history, Bermuda plays host to the America’s Cup. The island transforms itself from a honeymoon getaway with beautiful beaches to the venue for the most prestigious event in sailing.

The action is already underway with the first stages of America Cup Qualifiers taking place over the next week. The Qualifiers are just the start of the overall event with a number of other competitions and regattas to enjoy until 28 June 2017.

The event and the island offer something for everyone. Here is our guide of what not to miss at this years America's Cup 2017:

J Class Regatta – 16 June -20 June

After 80 years, the Classic yachts from the iconic J-Class fleet will be arriving at the America's Cup in June. The event will see a mix of original J Class yachts and modern replicas compete in an exclusive regatta on June 16, 19 and 20. The current J Class fleet comprises of seven yachts, including two of the original Js that raced for the America's Cup, Shamrock V and Endeavour. The seven J Class yachts sailing today are: Endeavour, Hanuman, Lionheart, Rainbow, Ranger, Shamrock V and Velsheda.Locations of Event – Hamilton Princess Marina

Red Bull's Finest

Do not miss the sailing talent of the future. This youth audience will be racing in the same boats the pros used last year, AC45 that hits a speed of up to 35 knots. Since the inception of the Youth America's Cup, eight sailors have gone on to sail for professional America's Cup teams – so you are sure to witness some rising stars.

35th Americas Cup Match

A big finale to an incredible event. The 34th Americas Cup Match was regarded as one the greatest comebacks and this year's event is sure to bring the same energy. The Winner of the Louis Vuitton America's Cup Playoffs will take on Oracles Team USA for the ultimate prize. Don't miss the action, with the first four races starting on June 17-18 2017.

Explore Bermuda

If you want time away from the sailing action, there is plenty to explore around Bermuda. Bermuda is made up of 181 islands formed by volcanoes in the middle of the Atlantic. Shaped like a fish hook, the main island is less than 21 square miles but has more than 60 miles of coastline. To get a lay of the land, explore the island's three regions – West End, Central Bermuda and East End – and get an overview of the world-renowned beaches dotting its shores.

Off the Beaten Track

If you are looking for something more adventurous than relaxing, rent a bike and explore the Bermuda Railway Trail. The former railway goes from one side of the island to the other offering breath-taking views of rocky coastlines and backcountry greenery – discover a day off the beaten path.
