Horario ininterrumpido

Put a spring in your step this Easter with these destinations

Air Partner - 03 mar. 2017

It might seem like Christmas has only just been and gone, but spring is already around the corner. And what better way to reward yourself for getting through the January blues and the cold bite of February than treating yourself and your loved ones to a rejuvenating Easter break? Whether you are after sun, snow or culture, our Private Jets team have selected some of their favourite spots for the spring months – with Italy being the top pick for this time of year. What’s more, many of these are no more than a hop, skip and a jump away, so are perfect for a long weekend.

Marrakech, Morocco

The historic Moroccan city of Marrakech attracts a mixture of crowds – the fashionable and the sun seekers. Whether you are happier scouring the souks in the Medina for jewellery, spices and fabrics, or touring the nearby Atlas Mountains and Sahara Desert, there’s something for everyone. We recommend staying in one of the luxury riads near the Medina from where you can access all the main sights by foot. The Jardin Majorelle (once owned by Yves Saint Laurent), the Saadian Tombs and Bahia Palace are particular highlights.

Rome Rome, Italy

The Eternal City is an incredible place to visit at any time of year, but there is something truly special about the atmosphere at Easter. From joining the crowds at the huge, open-air Mass on St Peter’s Square on Easter Sunday to over-indulging on the elaborate chocolate eggs that can be found in the city’s many pastry shops, Rome is the ultimate Easter experience.

Verbier

Verbier, Switzerland

If you are more of a snow bunny than a sun-worshipper, why not head to Verbier? Not only does it boast some of the Alps’ most challenging terrain for more seasoned skiers, the opening of two lift connections last year has made it much easier to explore the rest of the Four Valleys, so make sure to check out Bruson, Siviez and Nendaz too. Should you choose to go over the Easter period itself, there are numerous activities on offer, including Easter egg hunts for the children and various themed parties in the bars and clubs for the adults.

Seville Seville, Spain

Seville’s Easter week celebrations are known throughout the world, as tens of thousands of people gather to take part in the religious processions. The atmosphere at this time is electric but if you would rather avoid the crowds, the southern city is still a fantastic option any time from March onwards: the temperature starts to pick up, making it a lovely time of year to explore the many sights, such as the Alcázar castle complex and the Gothic Seville Cathedral – the site of Christopher Columbus’ tomb.

Florence Florence, Italy

As the birthplace of the Renaissance, Florence is an obvious choice for the culture vultures among you, with art, history and breath-taking architecture at every turn. It may be slightly cooler in the early spring, but it’s worth visiting at this time to avoid the hordes of tourists and explore at a more relaxed pace – without the hours of queuing! As well as taking in all the obvious sights – the Uffizi Gallery and the Duomo to name but a couple – make sure to spend time off the beaten track as well, such as in the Oltrarno district, the artists’ quarter.

Croatia Dubrovnik, Croatia

A winning combination of quaint medieval town and beach resort, it’s no surprise that Dubrovnik has become a go-to destination. We recommend going in May, after temperatures start to climb but before the summer crowds descend. The city’s main draw is the pedestrian old-town, but there are numerous other attractions to be found if you wander further afield: take a short boat trip over to the forested island of Lokrum and drive out to the Walls of Ston, the longest fortress system in Europe.

Venice Venice, Italy

A city that needs no introduction, Venice is considered by many to be one of the most beautiful and romantic cities in the world. As well as taking in the sights of the famous St Mark’s Square, visit the Jewish Ghetto in the Cannaregio district to experience a slice of the “real” Venice away from the crowds. Art lovers should head here in April to be one of the first in line to see Damien Hirst’s long-awaited exhibition at Punta della Dogana and Palazzo Grassi, which opens on the 9th.

Lisbon Lisbon, Portugal

Lisbon has massively grown in popularity in recent years and it’s not hard to see why: in addition to the impressive architecture, picturesque pastel coloured houses and historical landmarks, the city also has a thriving nightlife and an array of beautiful sandy beaches. It’s a fantastic place to visit from March onwards, when it starts getting warmer and dryer – it isn’t called the Sunshine Capital for nothing!
