Why is the Embraer Legacy so popular?

The reason why the Embraer Legacy triumphs against its peers as the best for touring is basic – compared to other aircraft of its size and seating capacity, it is often the most cost effective aircraft for charter use. The Embraer Legacy's design was originally based on the 37 seat regional airliner, the Embraer 135. Re-designed and re-configured as a business jet, it comes to the private jet market with 13 seats typically.

What is the difference between the Embraer Legacy 600 and the Embraer Legacy 650?

The main difference between these two models is range. The Embraer Legacy 600 is predominantly chartered for European tours or US tours that require domestic flights. Slightly newer to market, the cabin of the Embraer Legacy 650 won't look that dissimilar to a 600, but has the ability to fly longer sectors. This makes it often possible to fly longer routes without a stop, such as London to New York, London to Astana, Dubai to London and Lagos to London – subject to the weather and number of passengers travelling.

What is the on board experience like for a touring musician?

The Embraer Legacy offers a good sized cabin. The main cabin has four seats in a club-four configuration and a further four seats in the middle section around a dining table. At the rear of the cabin, there is a three seat sofa and two individual seats facing each other. In most models, the rear of the cabin can be separated for privacy from the main cabin with a curtain. This layout is extremely popular with musicians and tour managers and is one of the most celebrated features of the aircraft. The ability to section off the cabin means that musicians can get some sleep in the privacy of the rear cabin, whilst the tour manager can continue working in the main cabin. The table in the main cabin is also ideal for a game of cards – often a popular way to pass the time for band principals. Depending on the client's preferences, the long cabinet is often used by the flight attendant to lay out a spread of food to enjoy for the duration of the flight. There is also, of course, the option to be served at their seats, as they all have either fixed or pull-out tables. The aircraft also has a substantial enough galley to prepare hot food, which is particularly important for an after-show flight sector.

What other benefits to the cabin are there?

Particularly important for late night flights and a tightly packed tour schedule, the seats can be reclined in a sleeping configuration with mattresses added, allowing up to 6 passengers to get a good sleep during the flight. There is also a generous sized washroom at the rear of the cabin, which helpfully offers direct access to the hold, where the luggage is stored during the flight.

How many bags can I take on an Embraer Legacy?

Aside from the excellently thought out cabin layout, the generous baggage capacity is a key selling point for music tours. When travelling around on tour, its common for band members to carry a large amount of luggage – from instruments to massage tables to personal belongings. The Legacy hold is frankly huge compared to its peers and even supersedes that of the Gulfstream and Global Express – it can easily accommodate 25 bags.
