Strasbourg
24 November – 30 December 2017
The Capital of Christmas in France. Half-timbered houses sport giant red-and-white hearts; stars, angels and snowflakes garland the cobbled streets. Christkindelsmrik is one of the oldest markets in Europe dating back to 1570. With over 300 stalls, spread around 12 locations in the city centre. Discover the whole city this Christmas. Each year a giant Christmas tree is planted in Place Kleber close to the "Sharing Village", an ice-skating rink at the foot of the cathedral giving you a chance to appreciate the beauty of the cathedral and the city’s churches, and a whole host of activities allowing you to discover the rich Alsatian traditions. Make the most of your visit with the festive food on offer in the markets themselves, of course, but also take the opportunity to eat plenty of Tarte Flambée and Choucroute Garnie washed down with the local wines – try the renowned Michelin starred restaurant, Au Crocodile.

Salzberg
23rd November - 26th December 2017
The origins of the famous Salzburg Christmas market go all the way back to the late 15th century. Back then, the so-called “Tandlmarkt” would be held on Cathedral Square in the heart of the city, offering a wide range of goods for the locals to buy. This city offers a romantic and magical Christmas with a musical twist. As well as the traditional stalls through the markets with everything to offer, there is daily entertainment from choir singers and traditional wind instruments. Located in the northern Alps, you can experience a true white Christmas.

Copenhagen
18th November – 31st December
A traditional Christmas market set in the beautiful city of Copenhagen, the atmosphere is authentic and a less commercial than other markets. There is an invasion of Danish Christmas pixies (nisser), and the Tivoli Gardens are transformed into a large Christmas grotto, complete with a market. Stalls are decorated in the customary Danish and Scandinavian way. And Christmas isn’t complete without Santa Claus, who sets up shop in a 19th-century pantomime theatre. There are also plenty of activities such as theme park rides, ice-skating and rollercoasters – something to discover with friends or family of all ages. Don’t miss visiting Kronprinsensgade, the small street in the city center of Copenhagen that lights up every Christmas, as the street is beautifully decorated with a ‘blanket’ of thousands of small lights resembling a roof.

Toronto
November 16 to December 23, 2017.
Set within the Victorian-era cobblestone-lined street of the Toronto distillery district this Christmas market brings the festive spirit alive from mid-November. Local craftspeople, musicians and artisanal food markets add to the experience – and do not miss speciality hot and cold brews. The holiday tradition will feature one of the city’s largest real Christmas trees, over 50 feet high and adorned with around 18,000 ornaments and lights. Once you have explored this quaint Christmas market, head to the Toronto Waterfront to view the Spectacle of Lights. See the Toronto Music Garden come alive with an animated lighting installation to hear music notes and feast your eyes on a canopy shining brightly with over 39,000 LED lights. There certainly isn’t a lack of things to do in Toronto at this time of the year, with other exciting displays held at The Westin Hotel, the Fire Hall and the Amsterdam Bridge at Harbour front Centre. We suggest you dress for the cold.

Zagreb
2 December – 7 January
Although regarded as a popular summer destination, Advent in Zagreb has been voted the Best Christmas market in Europe for the second year running. You can explore everything it has to offer, from elaborate decorations, market stalls, themed walking tours, hearty sausages, cinnamon donuts, to open-air entertainment and live music and DJ sets every day. The city should not be overlooked as a winter destination and, apparently, Advent is set to be even bigger for 2017.
