A guide to Côte D’Azur – Fly Drive Experience

Air Partner - 30 giu 2017

In this feature we re-discover the Côte D’Azur, its history and how to see it all through a fly drive experience. With so much to offer, why just see one region when you can explore them all?

BEAUTIFUL COTE D’AZURE

Lovely coastline and dreamlike beaches, golf courses, hundreds of restaurants, luxurious marinas and more than 300 days of sunshine per year: welcome to paradise.

From silent retreats to fashionable shop, urban hot spots or a pulsating nightlife –the Côte d´Azur has all of it. Known as the French Riviera, the “Côte” is not only a geographical reference to the Mediterranean coastline, but refers to the relaxed and inspiring lifestyle of Southern France.

The climate is mild, the wind is gentle, colours are bright and the light is clear: perfect conditions for a joyful stay. Bright yellow mimosa. Red rocks. Blue sea. Purple lavender and green palm or pine trees.  The smell of aromatic herbs from the back country such as thyme, rosemary or oregano: the Côte d´Azur is a feast for the senses. The Maritim Alps and the Massif des Maures offer special views and curves, both breathtaking ones.

A PARADISE ON EARTH

Once, the Côte d’Azur was a remote, poor region, known for fishing and olive groves. A new era began when it changed to a health resort. Shortly after, the French Riviera became a popular destination for European royalty. Artists like Renoir, Matisse, Monet and Picasso followed. The Jazz Age saw “Great Gatsby“ - like American Bohemians like F.Scott Fitzgerald, shocking the locals with “exalted” activities. The real glitz and glamour days began in the 1950s and 60s, thanks to the film and music scene. It was the golden age with stars like Grace Kelly, Cary Grant, Marylin Monroe, Elizabeth Taylor and Frank Sinatra showing up. The 1960’s jet set with iconic Brigitte Bardot established the region’s spirit for years. Parties were wild and crazy. The Byblos, the Hôtel du Cap-Eden-Roc, Club 55, Les Caves du Roy attracted an A-list clientele like Mick Jagger or Jack Nicholson. Little changed since then. Hotels added silence and repose to a modern luxury style. More than ever fresh, organic food is requested by gourmets.

SOMEWHERE FOR EVERYONE ALONG YOUR ROUTE

Monaco

Glamour and adrenaline. Royal family and Grand Prix. Museums, top notch restaurants and luxury brands. One of the most beautiful yacht-clubs world-wide by Norman Foster, the Casino and utmost safety ... Share the traditional Monaco spirit, enjoy utmost safety and immerse yourself into the legendary Principality, where the whole world unfold on slightly more than 2 square kilometres.

Antibes

Antibes enchants by sandy beaches, historic ramparts and a district of winding alleys and flowercovered houses. Its main attraction is Musée Picasso located in the Château Grimaldi. More than 200 of its masterpieces are exhibited here. A pulsating nightlife and the popular Jazz á

Juan festival guarantee  an enjoyable stay.

Cannes

Known best for the Cannes International Film Festival, Cannes has been a popular seaside resort since the 19th century. Elegant apartments, luxury hotels and the main promenade “La Croisette“ form a pleasing contrast to the historic quarter, Le Suquet, climbing up above the Vieux Port where stylish yachts and fishing boats bob in the water.

Saint-Tropez

Once a humble fishing village, Saint-Tropez is known for its ambience. The Port. The upscale restaurants, bars and yachts. And the still noticeable spirit of “BB“. Despite being a jet set’s hot spot in summer, an authentic atmosphere can be found with colourful buildings, locals playing pétanque and families strolling along the port. Share the Saint-Tropez spirit and relax
