Paris may be the City of Love and Venice considered the most romantic city on earth, but why not treat your loved one to something a little bit different this Valentine’s Day? Europe is full of hidden gems that shouldn’t be overlooked: as well as avoiding the crowds, you might just fall in love with somewhere totally unexpected!
To help you on your way, the Private Jets team have handpicked some of their favourite spots from across the continent.
Oslo has long been a popular mini-break destination, but for a more active Valentine’s Day experience, why not visit Norway’s second largest city, Bergen? It’s the perfect base from which to explore the surrounding mountains and fjords – whether by foot, zipline or Segway. To really immerse yourself in the city’s unique atmosphere, stay in Bryggen, the historic wharf, which is famous for the coloured buildings lining the water.

Known as Sweden’s “Little London”, Gothenburg is renowned for its laid-back vibe, coffee shops, delicious street food and buzzing music scene. Many Swedes consider it to be the “coolest city” in the country and you’ll certainly understand why when exploring the quirky shops, bars and restaurants. Definitely a city for couples looking for something out of the mainstream.

Ghent is arguably Belgium’s best kept secret: despite its beautiful medieval architecture, quaint canals and vibrant nightlife, it’s less touristy than Bruges or Antwerp, making it the perfect romantic destination for couples. The city may be relatively small but it’s full of historical landmarks and museums, so is a must-visit for those looking for a trip with a little culture. We recommend you stay in the centre of the city for an authentic feel.

If you fancy spending your Valentine’s Day on the slopes, look no further than Innsbruck, located just beneath the breathtaking Nordkette mountain range. Not only is it a great place for winter sports (having hosted the Winter Olympics twice), the city is picture perfect, with a beautiful medieval old town, Habsburg palace and baroque cathedral. It’s the ideal choice for couples who want to combine a more traditional city break with something a bit more active.
