Airfield Wildlife Control Operator

Wildlife Hazard Management, a division of the Air Partner Group, has an immediate vacancy for Airfield Wildlife Control Operators (AWCO) in Suffolk, close to the town of Thetford.  This will be covering wildlife hazard management duties across two local RAF Airfields (Lakenheath and Mildenhall). 

Wildlife, particularly birds, pose a high risk to air safety, especially during critical points of flight, take-off and landing. The purpose of the AWCO is to eliminate the presence of birds and other wildlife on the airfield, reducing the risk to all aircraft using the airfield. 

Wildlife is naturally attracted to the airfield due to several factors, the primary being the abundance of food. Equipped with a 4x4 vehicle, bioacoustics, pyrotechnics and (when all else fails) a shotgun, you will deter the wildlife from settling on the airfield and encourage all bird populations to stay well clear. The entire operation is carried out within the strict guidelines of Natural England, the police and local airfield management. All movements and activities are recorded in a watch log, with all lethally controlled animals dispatched under licence as a last resort to preserve the safety of our aircraft.

What we are looking for:

To be considered for this position, you must be colour perception safe, hold a full, valid UK driving licence and be able to apply and maintain security clearance as well as shotgun and firearms certificates with your local police authority.  Shooting experience is also a huge benefit. 

The role would be ideal for candidates with an agricultural, game/ nature reserve, security, farming or forestry background, or anyone who is active outside of work, but happy to be fairly immobile, autonomous and out in all weathers during working hours. 

Shifts are 12 hours, either 6am until 6pm or 6pm until 6am and you will work mainly alone, so if you are a people person this is not the role for you.  You will also be an excellent communicator as this role involves continually providing updates via radio and updating digital logs accurately.   Shift patterns are 4 on then 4 off.
